Friday, August 2nd, 5:30-7:30pm
Come to CREATE Gallery from 5:30-7:30pm during Catskill First Friday (Aug. 2) for a special Artist Talk when artists from both our “Dwelt” and “Capturing Furgary” exhibits will share details about their work and inspiration in back-to-back conversations.
CREATE 398 Main Street, Catskill, NY
Talk One (5:30-6:30pm) in our 1st floor gallery: “Dwelt: Exploring Structural Significance” – Buildings offer a physical and metaphorical space to embody parts of our lives. In constructing narratives of personal histories, places frame and create not only a backdrop but become a character in how these stories are formed and remembered. Dwelt features works by Pauline DeCarmo, Amanda C. Mathis, Elizabeth Messer and Monika Zarzeczna which utilize structures as a container for memories and examining experiences. Co-curated by Monika Zarzeczna and Stella Yoon
Talk Two (6:30-7:30pm) in our 2nd floor gallery: “Capturing Furgary: Artists views of the vanishing fishing shacks” in Hudson – a group show of works by members of the former Columbia County Council on the Arts and other artists celebrating the uniqueness of the historic Furgary Fishing Village in Hudson. Photographs and paintings on exhibit were made beginning in 2012 when the residents were evicted to more recent work created in 2024. Artists: Robert Coppola, Joan Damiani, Chris DeMarco, Laura Garramone, Gerald Cooley, Karen Anne Hummel, Peter Keitel, Gretchen Kelly, David Lesako, Cynthia Mulvaney, Robert Near, Cecelia Sinclair, Tim Slowinski, John Whipple.
