“I need to learn the meaning of work” declares DanielKleederman, in his Buckley-esque timbre, opening his debut LP, Another Life. But as Kleederman wonders, the body of work itself seems to answer: the meaning is in the monuments – the memorializing of precious relationships and breakups; grand epiphany and tortuous heartbreak; foggy hairpin bends and sweet, unforeseen surprises. Though the Western, MA native may be best known for his work as a guitarist and collaborator for indie rock powerhouse Bartees Strange, Kleederman has quietly been working up to his own debut album, co-produced with longtime musical partner, Chris Connors. Here, the instrumentalist and songwriter casts a steady gaze across the pains and pleasures of memory, soaking in the lessons they bring to the surface with a sacred, unhurried vigor. Inspired by the surrealism of loss, and the life-raft of truth, Another Life teems with a kaleidoscopic candor: melting harmonies, elastic rhythms and Kleederman’s dexterous and expressive guitar work coalesce his slow-burning, soft-focus observations into a genre-defying, rich and psychedelic tapestry.

Ciarra Fragale
Sounding like a heady combination of Weyes Blood, Linda Ronstadt, and Gossip, Fragale’s sweet croon hovers over a pulsing bassline evoking the feeling of a long-ago summer ride in the “way back” of an old station wagon, eating popsicles with the back window cracked open.

Verboten
Verboten writes charming, folky pop songs about disillusionment. Songwriter Foster Powell pairs bright, melodic hooks with poetic lyrics and a sound indebted to 90s-era indie rock.
