Join an intimate one-night-only performance by SCRAAATCH, a collaboration between artists E. Jane and chukwumaa (known individually as artists MHYSA and lawd knows). Combining disparate forms of media including club music, synthesizer drones and archival visual materials, SCRAAATCH create immersive multimedia environments using live electronics, DJ equipment, video. Their performance at Art Omi will build on their recent body of work exploring ideas of conflict and hypervisibility within a technocratic surveillance state.
SCRAAATCH
SCRAAATCH make multimedia works and performances which focus on themes of communication across the Black diaspora, generational traumas, social upheaval, and the social conditions of urban environments. Their performances range from sets at warehouse raves that expand the boundaries of the DJ form to performances at festivals and arts institutions such as The Kitchen, MoCADA, Pioneer Works, MoMA PS1, New York; ICA, Philadelphia; Rewire, Netherlands; and Les Urbaines, Switzerland. They teach classes on performance and sound at Harvard University, and recently attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. They were recent resident artists at the Center for AfroFuturuist Studies in Iowa City and were the 2023 artists-in-residence at Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha.
